A full planning application has been submitted to Kirklees Council for building 22 houses on the Newsome Mill Ponds site and the land at Hart Street. We know that this heritage greenspace matters to our community – the overwhelming response we hear in Newsome is that local people value, benefit from and want to retain this open space. If Newsome Mill Ponds matter to you, please share your views about these proposals.
You have until Tuesday 8th June 2021 to share your views. Find out how:

This year’s Big Plant Swap in Newsome is a little different. Although we aren’t able to get together for our usual event this year, we are still here for each other. And we still want to help people grow their own food. So with a little help from our friends, Growing Newsome are making something a bit special happen this month. We’ve already dropped hundreds of plants on the doorsteps of people who are shielding, self-isolating or growing food for their wellbeing. And there’s still time for you to join in…

Due to falling congregation numbers and the need for significant repairs to the building, the future of St. John’s Church in Newsome village is being considered by church authorities.
The church has been central to community life in Newsome for many years. The building itself, which opened in 1872, is also an important part of the character of the village. Church authorities are now welcoming new ideas about how the building could be used in the future.
There will be a public meeting on Thursday 2nd April 2020 from 7pm at St. John’s Church, Jackroyd Lane, Newsome. The church would like as many people as possible to attend and share their views and ideas.
New sources of funding will be needed if we are to keep the church at the centre of Newsome. There have been lots of ideas shared already, but we also need people and organisations who can help implement some of these ideas and secure funding.
Please come along if you can help, or if you’d like to find out more.
