Community Coffee & Catch up – Saturday 31st July 2021

Join us on Saturday 31st July from 10am to 1pm for a Community Coffee & Catch Up morning.

This is a friendly and safe event organised by Newsome Ward Community Forum to help us all reconnect with our community.

Venue: Newsome Scout Hall, Newsome Road South, Newsome, Huddersfield HD4 6JJ

The event will include stalls from local organisations and homemade refreshments for you to enjoy. Admission is free. Everyone welcome.

Masks are advised whilst you’re walking around the hall. You can sit and enjoy your refreshments at the tables. If you haven’t been before, the Scout Hall is a large room with lots of space to keep each other safe.

Growing Newsome Pop up Plant Swap, 12th June 2021

Come along to Growing Newsome’s outdoor Pop up Plant Swap to take your pick from our wide selection of edible plants, and a few other things. Plants will include: Vegetables, Salads, Herbs, Fruit and Wildlife-friendly flowers. You can bring something along to swap, or choose some plants in exchange for a donation to Growing Newsome.

Saturday 12th June 2021, from 10am to 12 noon, outside Newsome Scout Hall, Newsome Road South HD4 6JJ.

Newsome Mill Ponds matter – share your views

A full planning application has been submitted to Kirklees Council for building 22 houses on the Newsome Mill Ponds site and the land at Hart Street. We know that this heritage greenspace matters to our community – the overwhelming response we hear in Newsome is that local people value, benefit from and want to retain this open space. Walk, move, relax

Do you need time to leave worries behind and reconnect and chat with others? Then come along to this free class, every Wednesday from 9.15am to 10.30am. Includes a chance to chat, breathing exercises and gentle yoga moves. Meet at the entrance to St. John’s Church, Jackroyd Lane, Newsome. Walk sets off at 9.30am.

Newsome Play Day Treasure Hunts

We can’t get together for our usual Play Day event this year, but you can still join in the fun. Newsome Ward Community Forum are setting up 3 Treasure Hunt Trails around Newsome.

Pick up your entry forms at one of these local stores:

  • Newsome Fisheries
  • Newsome Post Office
  • Fair Price
  • Naim Stores

The forms will tell you where the Treasure Hunt routes are, and how to join in.

You can take part from Wednesday 5th August 2020, which is National Play Day.

The closing date for entries is 5pm on Wednesday 19th August.

Prizes will be suitable for ages 3 to 12 years old.

Growing Newsome Plant Drop

This year’s Big Plant Swap in Newsome is a little different. Although we aren’t able to get together for our usual event this year, we are still here for each other. And we still want to help people grow their own food. So with a little help from our friends, Growing Newsome are making something a bit special happen this month. We’ve already dropped hundreds of plants on the doorsteps of people who are shielding, self-isolating or growing food for their wellbeing. And there’s still time for you to join in…
