Newsome Wild is a new voluntary group forming to adopt a piece of unused land in the village. The hope is this land can be used to create a garden and outdoor space for the community as well as increase the biodiversity to support native and rehabilitated wildlife.

This is an open day to meet and chat about the proposed ideas for the unused land and turning it into a community outdoor space.
Saturday 23rd October from 10am to 4pm at Newsome Scout Hall.
The Local councillors for the Newsome ward – Karen Allison, Andrew Cooper and Susan Lee-Richards – would like to hear your views and ideas on the future of St. John’s Church in Newsome village.
We want to share with you some potential plans on how we can make best use of this fantastic community asset.

Kirklees Council are making improvements to the play area at Primrose Hill, near Primrose Hill Road, with funding from the Playable Spaces programme. They are interested to know what you think would improve this play area, whether you’re a regular visitor or someone who doesn’t use the park at the moment. Kirklees Council will use your feedback to help create a design which meets community needs. Please fill in the quick 5 minute survey by 9th August 2021.
School’s Out! is a programme of summer clubs and activities for children and young people in Kirklees.
This includes the Holiday Activities and Food programme which will help children to stay active and healthy, boosting their mental and physical wellbeing.
Sessions are available for 4 to 16 year olds who receive benefits-related free school meals.
Join us on Saturday 31st July from 10am to 1pm for a Community Coffee & Catch Up morning.
This is a friendly and safe event organised by Newsome Ward Community Forum to help us all reconnect with our community.

The event will include a Growing Newsome stall, info from local organisations and homemade refreshments for you to enjoy. Admission is free. Everyone welcome.
Masks are advised whilst you’re walking around the hall. You can sit and enjoy your refreshments at the tables. If you haven’t been before, the Scout Hall is a large room with lots of space to keep each other safe.

Come and join the fun at Newsome Play Day. Lots of activities for children aged 0 to 12 and their families.
Newsome Play Day is on Wednesday 4th August 2021 from 11am to 3pm outdoors in the field behind Hillside Primary school, Headfield Road, Newsome HD4 6LU.
Activities include: Slip Slide, Arts and Crafts, Circus Skills, free Play activities and Sports.
It’s always a great fun day. Please remember to bring suitable outdoor clothing and bring along your lunch and drinks.
Covid is still here so remember: hands, face, space.

Step by Step provides support for people who are looking for work. Theses sessions can help you into employment, training or volunteering – or help you improve your working life. Support includes help with benefits, housing and debt. Digital access is also available.
The club will continue weekly throughout the year (with a break over Christmas). Due to covid restrictions please get in touch if you’d like to come (at least for the first time), so we are able to staff the club correctly.

Come along to Growing Newsome’s outdoor Pop up Plant Swap to take your pick from our wide selection of edible plants, and a few other things. Plants will include: Vegetables, Salads, Herbs, Fruit and Wildlife-friendly flowers. You can bring something along to swap, or choose some plants in exchange for a donation to Growing Newsome.

Do you need time to leave worries behind and reconnect and chat with others? Then come along to this free gentle walking and outdoor yoga class.
Starting on Thursday 10th June 2021, 9.30am to 10.30am. Weekly class, for six weeks. Includes a chance to chat, breathing exercises and gentle yoga moves. Meet at the entrance to St. John’s Church, Jackroyd Lane, Newsome.
