Do you know where the wood is in Lockwood? Ever visited the river? Let charity, River Holme Connections, and local artists bring Spa Wood and the River Holme to life for your family.

Join our Family Nature Quest led by artist Bess Martin, who will take you on a journey of discovery. All ages will love this exploration game as Bess reveals Spa Wood’s hidden treasures and the enjoyment a trip along the riverside can bring.

Please drop in for an hour on Sunday 30th June 2019 between 11am and 3pm and enjoy the quest. Meet at The Scar Cafe, 1 Woodhead Road, Huddersfield HD4 6ER.

This free event is open to families living in the local area.

Do you live in Newsome, Berry Brow, Lockwood or Crosland Moor? Then you can take part in this free event.

Create a limestone sculpture for your home or garden. Professional stone sculptor, Melanie Wilks, will teach you how to sculpt like an expert to create a relief sculpture in this creative workshop. Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the workshop and dress appropriatley.

Saturday 15th June 2019 from 10am to 4pm. Meet at  The Scar Cafe, 1 Woodhead Road, Lockwood, Huddersfield HD4 6ER. Organised by River Holme Connections. Minimum age: 14 years. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Berry Brow Carnival 2019

Berry Brow Carnival

Come along to Berry Brow Carnival – it’s a great family afternoon, packed with activities and entertainment.

Keep your fingers and toes crossed that the sun has his hat on for this year’s Carnival on Saturday 15th June 2019 from 12.30pm to 5pm at Berry Brow Playing Fields, Ladyhouse Lane, Berry Brow, Huddersfield HD4 7QD.

Berry Brow Carnival posterActivities include: Face Painting and Glitter Tattoos, Crafty Devilz Circus Skills (try your hand at juggling, stilt walking, diablo and plate spinning), Horse Riding, Fair Ground Rides and lots more.

Entertainment from: Power Hoopers, The Punch & Judy Show, Musica Music School, Reach Performing Arts, Rhythmix Dance and Hathor Egyptian Belly Dancers (join these ladies at their stall and have a go yourself under their expert tuition).

 

You can enjoy some great food options too, supplied by local companies.

And don’t forget the carnival essentials: Art Tent, Tombola, Coconut Shy, Hook a Duck, Bran Tub, Welly Wanging, Egg Throwing and Hula Hoop Contest.

Ever wondered what it’s like to forage in the woods and make your own food and drink with what grows around us? On this holistic wild walk we’ll show you some simple recipes you can make from things right outside your door step.

Have the chance to explore our gardens and vegetable patch and bring your own picnic to admire the view. Take a walk through our fields, how many calves will you spot? Cakes and hot drinks will be available.

Open Farm Sunday

On 9th June 2019, hundreds of farms all over the country will open their gates for LEAF Open Farm Sunday 2019. The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust are celebrating all things wildlife and conservation. Come and join us at Stirley Farm for a fun day out, with farm themed activities, food and drink and meet the people behind the scenes who look after our livestock and local wildlife.

The BIG Blessing

Come and join local volunteers for the 4th annual outdoor service at Stirley Community Farm on Sunday 26th May 2019 from 2pm to 3pm, followed by refreshments.

Songs, prayers and readings at Stirley Community Farm for wildlife, farming, allotments and gardens, and Planet Earth. Meet at the Cre8 Barn at 2pm and walk round the farm to visit our bees, cows, vegetable garden and orchard. Special theme this year “Climate Emergency”. Well-behaved dogs on leads welcome. Come prepared for the weather! Refreshments afterwards in the Cre8 Barn.
