We can’t get together for our usual Play Day event this year, but you can still join in the fun. Newsome Ward Community Forum are setting up 3 Treasure Hunt Trails around Newsome.
Pick up your entry forms at one of these local stores:

- Fair Price
- Naim Stores
The forms will tell you where the Treasure Hunt routes are, and how to join in.
You can take part from Wednesday 5th August 2020, which is National Play Day.
The closing date for entries is 5pm on Wednesday 19th August.
Prizes will be suitable for ages 3 to 12 years old.

Growing Great Places is a community crowdfunding programme to support citizens and organisations who have great ideas for making our local places even better. Kirklees Council are pledging £50k of funding over the next year, plus advice and support to help you run a great crowdfunding campaign.
You might have a little idea that can have a big impact by bringing a place together. Or you might need some help growing support for an ambitious project that’s just getting started.
If you’re interested in finding out more, register now for one of these free community crowdfunding workshops, hosted by Spacehive, where you can:
- Hear about funds from Kirklees Council available for your project
- Receive advice on developing your project from the team and our partners at Locality
- Join smaller break out rooms for interactive, specialised support for your project including Q&As with Spacehive project creators

Growing Newsome Plant Drop
This year’s Big Plant Swap in Newsome is a little different. Although we aren’t able to get together for our usual event this year, we are still here for each other. And we still want to help people grow their own food. So with a little help from our friends, Growing Newsome are making something a bit special happen this month. We’ve already dropped hundreds of plants on the doorsteps of people who are shielding, self-isolating or growing food for their wellbeing. And there’s still time for you to join in…

Wild and Wonderful: Hall Bower Art Exhibition 2020
An array of pictures and painting done by Hall Bower Art Club members, plus other craft stalls. The usual refreshment room will be open, offering a range of lovely home made cakes and sandwiches, including our delicious Hot Beef (and Onion) rolls.
Open days Friday 16th October and Saturday 17th October 2020 from 11am till 4pm at Hall Bower Sunday School, High Lane, Huddersfield HD4 6RL, with the official opening on Friday 16th October at 11.30am.

Wild Art
Join us for a week filled with creativity, with a new art workshop every day, you can learn how to make your own clay animals, leaf crowns, pebble painting, bark etchings, natural art outdoors, water painting, wild jewellery and more! With something different each day this is a great way to be learn the many ways in which nature has so much to offer. Fun for all the family. Standard price £4 / £6 per person. Light refreshments will be available.

Stirley Wild Walk – cancelled
The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust have cancelled all events at Stirley Farm until the end of April 2020, due to the coronovirus outbreak.
Put a spring in your step with a guided walk around our grass lands and up to the iconic Castle Hill. Being outdoors is not only great for your health and wellbeing, but it’s the best way to see nature close up, bring your walking boots, take in the view, aaaaand relax! The walk will be about 1.5 to 2 hours in total, approximately 4km. Medium to hard difficulty (with potential for boggy areas, steep inclines and uneven terrain). Light refreshments will be available after the walk. Suitable for familes and adults (age 8+). Price: £4 member, and £6 non-member per attendee – includes hot drinks.

Coffee mornings at Hall Bower Chapel 2020
Our coffee morning is the first Wednesday of every month, with an excellent choice of homemade cakes available. A piece of cake together with a mug of coffee costs just £2… coffee refills are free. Also available is a copy of our popular “Diabolical Quiz”. The quiz sheet costs £1 and is to take away, study and return within a month.

Spring Nature Tots

Come and join us for fun activities in and around Stirley Farm for pre-schoolers and their parents (suitable for 5s and under). Nature Tots take place the last Friday of every month, we encourage creative play and weather permitting, will do many of our pre-school activities outside. We aim to incorporate nature and wildlife elements into toddler play, it’s also a great opportunity to meet new parents and have a good catch-up with a cup of tea or coffee. Light refreshments available. Standard price £4 / £6 per child – adults free.
