Laura is organising a community Litter Pick and Bramble tidy – volunteers welcome.

In the woodland off Newsome Road South (opposite Castle Hill School).

Saturday 23rd April 2022 from 9am to 1pm.

Please bring along gloves, loppers and a litter picker if you have them.

Newsome Ward Community Forum meetings are re-starting on 10th March 2022. This will be a short meeting, with refreshments, where you can catch up with what’s going on in Newsome and reconnect with friends, neighbours and colleagues. We would love to see you there.

Growing Newsome Seed Swap and Potato Day 2022

Everyone is welcome at Growing Newsome’s annual Seed Swap and Potato Day. This early Spring event features everything you need to get your food growing year off to a great start. Choose from 20 different varieties of seed potato, plus lots of vegetable seeds. There’s also seed planting and craft activities for children, food growing advice, stalls from community organisations, local volunteering opportunities, local food on sale, book stall, refreshments and a hot lunch served at 12 noon.

The event is on Saturday 5th March 2022 from 10am to 1pm at Newsome Scout Hall, Newsome Road South HD4 6JJ. Free admission.

During the winter, especially with the storm, we’ve all been worried about the birds. One way you can help is to make sure they have plenty of food! That’s why Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Stirley Farm are excited to be running some Bird Feeder Making workshops this spring 2022 half term. There are different feeders you can make and the event is fun for all ages.

Adults £5, Children £3, Family Ticket (2 Adults and 2 Children) £13.

Growing Newsome’s Autumn event 2021

Everyone is welcome at Growing Newsome’s annual Autumn event. There’s lots of local food available to try and buy, including preserves, homemade cakes and a hot, two-course lunch served from 12 noon. Food growers can choose from six different varieties of garlic bulbs, plus onion sets, seeds and plants.

The event is on Saturday 16th October 2021 from 10am to 1pm at Newsome Scout Hall, Newsome Road South HD4 6JJ. Refreshments are available all morning. Free admission.

Growing Newsome Autumn event

Newsome Wild Open Day, 23rd October 2021

Newsome Wild is a new voluntary group forming to adopt a piece of unused land in the village. The hope is this land can be used to create a garden and outdoor space for the community as well as increase the biodiversity to support native and rehabilitated wildlife.

This is an open day to meet and chat about the proposed ideas for the unused land and turning it into a community outdoor space.

Community Coffee & Catch up – Saturday 31st July 2021

Join us on Saturday 31st July from 10am to 1pm for a Community Coffee & Catch Up morning.

This is a friendly and safe event organised by Newsome Ward Community Forum to help us all reconnect with our community.

Venue: Newsome Scout Hall, Newsome Road South, Newsome, Huddersfield HD4 6JJ

The event will include a Growing Newsome stall, info from local organisations and homemade refreshments for you to enjoy. Admission is free. Everyone welcome.

Masks are advised whilst you’re walking around the hall. You can sit and enjoy your refreshments at the tables. If you haven’t been before, the Scout Hall is a large room with lots of space to keep each other safe.

Newsome Play Day 2021

Come and join the fun at Newsome Play Day. Lots of activities for children aged 0 to 12 and their families.

Newsome Play Day is on Wednesday 4th August 2021 from 11am to 3pm outdoors in the field behind Hillside Primary school, Headfield Road, Newsome HD4 6LU.

Activities include: Slip Slide, Arts and Crafts, Circus Skills, free Play activities and Sports.

It’s always a great fun day. Please remember to bring suitable outdoor clothing and bring along your lunch and drinks.
