Kirklees Council are working alongside citizens and local organisations to make sure that together we can all support our neighbours and communities. Our co-ordinated Community Response is aimed at supporting those who are most vulnerable and in need of support, and who cannot currently get this help directly from friends, relatives or neighbours.
How to request support or offer support
You can use our online form let us know about the things you (or someone who you are concerned about) need help with. You can also tell us how you (or your organisation) can support others.
The Community Response support blog is for anyone who is helping others in our local places during the coronavirus outbreak. Kirklees Council and Volunteering Kirklees (part of Third Sector Leaders) have created this blog to share useful information with volunteers, mutual aid groups and local organisations.
On the blog you’ll find:
Advice and information for local groups, organisations and volunteers.
Key information that you can share with others.
Stories from groups and organisations who are part of the response.
Each article has sharing buttons that you can use to quickly share the information via social media, messaging services, email or print.
Here’s how to contact local groups and organisations in the Newsome ward who are offering support during the coronavirus outbreak.

The Welcome Centre
To get help from The Welcome Centre, you need a referral from a support worker or support professional. There are a few simple ways to do this. You can find out more on their website:
Due to falling congregation numbers and the need for significant repairs to the building, the future of St. John’s Church in Newsome village is being considered by church authorities.
The church has been central to community life in Newsome for many years. The building itself, which opened in 1872, is also an important part of the character of the village. Church authorities are now welcoming new ideas about how the building could be used in the future.
There will be a public meeting on Thursday 2nd April 2020 from 7pm at St. John’s Church, Jackroyd Lane, Newsome. The church would like as many people as possible to attend and share their views and ideas.
New sources of funding will be needed if we are to keep the church at the centre of Newsome. There have been lots of ideas shared already, but we also need people and organisations who can help implement some of these ideas and secure funding.
Please come along if you can help, or if you’d like to find out more.
